Twickenham Pool Site surroundings - low tide, 13/11/04
Low tide beside the Eel Pie bridge, 13/11/04

Every November the lock gates are opened at Richmond to allow the river to drop to its natural level - ordinarily
it's held back so Twickenham sees only the top of the tides. Letting the water out is called the "draw off" and it's
done to give time for repairing moorings and docks and river walls. It's a wonderful time for the birds, mudlarks,
and small children of all ages.
